First Nations Consultation

Energy's Aboriginal Relations Unit is participating in a cross-ministry consultation initiative, along with the departments of Intergovernmental, International and Aboriginal Relations, Sustainable Resource Development, Culture and Community Spirit, Environment and Water, and Justice.

Energy's consultation managers work as liaisons with First Nations' communities and the resource industry.

This liaison work includes:

• ensuring communities receive information about resource development;
• helping communities broaden their understanding of the resource industry;
• providing technical guidance to communities that wish to begin, or continue, a traditional use study; and
• providing information on the roles of Alberta Energy, the Government of Alberta and its regulatory system.
