Addressing Conflict Situations

The Department of Energy believes that through open communication between Aboriginal communities, industry, provincial government departments and the federal government, Aboriginal issues that may disrupt resource activity can be addressed prior to an escalation of actions.

Aboriginal Relations stays informed about Aboriginal situations that may affect the resource industry, works to address conflict situations, and attempts to assist in facilitating solutions.

If an Aboriginal organization or group of individuals engage in action aimed at disrupting industry activities, such as erecting a roadblock, the province has developed a cross-ministry action plan to ensure a co-ordinated response from Alberta.
