Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) and the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB)
Passed during the fall 2007 sitting of the Legislature, the Alberta Utilities Commission Act
separated the EUB into the two new regulatory bodies. The Act came into effect on January 1, 2008.
The Alberta Utilities Commission
is responsible for the distribution and sale of electricity and natural gas to Alberta consumers. The commission will also be responsible for applications regarding new or upgraded electricity transmission lines.
The Energy Resources Conservation Board
will focus exclusively on the responsible development of Alberta’s oil and gas resources.
