The Government of Alberta has named a group of experts to provide detailed advice on establishing a province-wide comprehensive environmental monitoring system. “Our goal is to build a world-class, science-based monitoring system,” said Diana McQueen, Minister of Environment and Water. “This team of scientific, regulatory and academic experts will review governance and funding options and provide recommendations to the government so that we continue making progress.”

First step to releasing more land to give Fort McMurray room to grow
The Alberta government is working to address growth pressures in the Fort McMurray region through the transfer of more than 600 acres of land in the Saline Creek area from Keyano College to a land trust for the college. The land will be used for much-needed new residential and commercial development.

New advisory body to coordinate transportation planning in oil sands region (January 4, 2012)
A new advisory committee, the Athabasca Oil Sands Area Transportation Coordinating Committee, will review and will make recommendations to the Alberta government on the current and future transportation needs of the Athabasca oil sands region. The committee of municipal, industry and provincial representatives will take into account the region’s unique economic and infrastructure needs and the importance of the oil sands to the province’s economy.
