Renewable Fuels Standard brings value-added opportunities to Alberta’s bioenergy sector (March 28, 2011)
Edmonton... Alberta is building on its reputation as a major player in the bioenergy sector with the implementation of a Renewable Fuels Standard on April 1. The new standard requires an annual average of two per cent renewable diesel in diesel fuel and five per cent renewable alcohol in gasoline sold in Alberta. 

 

Federal-Provincial Investment to Establish Clean Energy Centre and Bring New Biomass Technologies to MarketExternal link icon(January 26, 2011)  
Alberta’s capacity and ability to convert biomass into market- ready products is expanding with the establishment of a bio-energy applied research facility and industrial cluster at Hairy Hill, near Vegreville. A combined federal-provincial investment of $8.4 million under the Canada-Alberta Western Economic Partnership Agreement (WEPA) is supporting the BioWaste to Energy for Canada Integration Initiative (BECii) Corporation, an industry driven not-for-profit organization, to establish the BECii Clean Energy Centre.

Edmonton... Promoting Alberta’s responsible, resourceful approach to energy development will be Energy Minister Mel Knight’s focus as he leads Alberta’s delegation to the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Energy Council. The meeting, being held in Oklahoma City from September 25 to 28, will include energy representatives from Canada and the United States.

Bioenergy grants continue to build a greener energy industry (April 4, 2008)
Edmonton… To encourage the further expansion of Alberta’s renewable energy sector, the Government of Alberta has invested more than $17 million in grants to bioenergy projects located throughout the province.  Fifteen companies will receive the grants—ranging from $18,500 to $5 million—to help fund new facilities and research to strengthen the bioenergy industry.

Grant funding creates bio-energy hub in Central Alberta (January 2, 2008)
Edmonton… Over a half million dollars in provincial grants have been approved for three bio-energy projects in Central Alberta.  The projects, located in Red Deer, Ponoka and Bentley, will explore the business potential for new facilities and expand the capacity of current ones.  Combined, the three projects represent up to $108 million of new investment in the province.

Planning for major biodiesel facility near Vegreville underway  (December 7, 2007)
Vegreville… A provincial grant will assist in the development of a feasibility study for a proposed $65-million bio-energy facility near Vegreville.  More than $263,000 in grant funding has been approved to examine the business potential of a canola crush and bio-diesel business development project.

Provincial dollars help convert waste into watts  (December 5, 2007)
Fort McMurray... Austrian technology will find a new home in the Fort McMurray region converting forestry wood waste into a valuable energy source, thanks in part to $2 million in government funding. The project, a $16-million project from Northland Forest Products Ltd., will divert wood waste in the region to create a new value-added opportunity from forestry bio-mass.

Provincial bio-energy grant spurs growth near Lethbridge  (December 3, 2007)
Lethbridge... A bio-gas development near Lethbridge that will turn organic waste to energy products has been approved for $1.5 million in provincial grant funding. The facility will use local livestock manure and food processing waste as feedstock, creating an innovative value-added opportunity in the community.

Provincial bio-energy grant spurs growth in the County of Stettler (November 21, 2007)
Stettler… More than $137,000 in grant funding has been approved for an electricity-from-biomass project in the County of Stettler. The project will investigate the potential to reduce waste management costs by creating green energy products from waste, as well as diversifying and increasing the county revenue.

Rimbey… The Rimbey Biofuel Project, a community-based plan to construct a $30 million agricultural waste gasification plant, will receive more than $400,000 in support from the Alberta government as part of the province’s ongoing commitment to alternative and renewable energy sources.

Bio-energy grant helps turn waste to wealth  (November 26, 2007)
Edmonton… A new wood waste gasification facility, featuring cutting-edge German technology, has been approved for $5 million in government funding under the province’s bio-energy strategy.  The $70-million project will divert forestry and municipal wood waste from land fills in the Edmonton region to create a new value-added opportunity from forestry biomass.

Provincial bio-energy grant spurs growth near Hairy Hill (November 16, 2007)
Hairy Hill… Almost $4 million in provincial grant funding will help develop the Growing Power Hairy Hill integrated bio-refinery in northeast Alberta. This project is expected to bring significant investment to the area, building on the local livestock sector and generating new value-added opportunities by adding new ethanol production capability to the existing facility.

Falher… The Smoky Pork Development Ltd. plant near Falher will receive more than $900,000 in support from the Government of Alberta as part of the province’s ongoing commitment to alternative and renewable energy sources.

Provincial bio-energy grant spurs growth in Fort Saskatchewan (October 15, 2007)
Fort Saskatchewan… More than $4 million has been approved for Canadian Bioenergy Corporation biodiesel plant in Fort Saskatchewan. This plant will be one of the largest biodiesel plants to be constructed in Western Canada and will provide feedstock opportunities for rural Alberta and the agricultural industry.

Provincial program to boost bio-energy production in Alberta (July 31, 2007)
Edmonton... The production of clean, renewable energy will receive a major boost over the next four years, thanks to support from the provincial government. The $209-million Bio-Energy Producer Credit Program will encourage further investment in the province’s emerging bio-energy industry through financial incentives for producers, while advancing new markets for agricultural and forestry products.

Grants to spur bio-energy development in Alberta (April 12, 2007)
Edmonton… Fourteen renewable energy projects will receive grant funding from the Alberta government to support the development and expansion of bio-energy facilities and technology.  The grant recipients will receive a total of $5 million in the first phase of funding.
