Alberta Petroleum Royalty Guidelines

The Guidelines describe the principles involved in assessing, levying and collecting Alberta's Crown royalty share of crude oil produced from lands under a Crown lease agreement. It also describes the procedures for carrying out the assessment, levy, and collection of royalty. ** Important Update:  The Department has made some important changes to the Low Productivity Well Royalty Reduction Regulation, Reactivated Well Royalty Exemption Regulation and the Horizontal Re-entry Well Royalty Reduction Regulation.   Read more

Alberta Petroleum Marketing Guidelines

The Petroleum Marketing Regulation is a new Regulation that is required to clearly set out the responsibilities of oil producers for the reporting and delivery in kind of the Crown’s royalty oil. The Regulation provides the necessary guidelines to ensure producers calculate the correct amount of royalty oil and deliver it on a timely basis. It also puts in appropriate penalties and interest provisions to ensure and improve compliance. Read more

Enhanced Oil Recovery Guidelines

The Alberta Government is encouraging the use of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods to conserve the province's petroleum resource. EOR recovery methods that use the injection of fluids such as hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, nitrogen or chemicals allow for the recovery of additional oil. To promote this additional recovery, the Crown has agreed to share in incremental costs that are over and above the cost of conventional recovery methods by forgoing royalties on a portion of incremental tertiary production.  Read more
