Most of the crude oil produced in Alberta is exported to the rest of Canada or the United States.

Of the production that remains in the province, most is converted into transportation fuels at refineries in Alberta.

Identification of Enhanced Oil Recovery Potential in Alberta
Sproule Associates Limited was contracted by the Energy Resources Conservation Board to prepare this study from March 2011 to March 2012. More information about the project objectives and the actual reports are available in the Enhanced Oil Recovery section of this site.

Summary of Alberta's Shale- and Siltstone-Hosted Hydrocarbon Resource Potential
This summary produced by Alberta Geological Survey under the Energy Resource Appraisal Group of the Energy Resources Conservation Board provides baseline data, information, and understanding of the geology, distribution, reservoir characteristics, and hydrocarbon resource potential of Alberta shales.

Jacobs Report, this report, contracted by the Alberta Government, provides new information on the life cycle assessment of the greenhouse gases associated with crude oils used in the European Union.

  Alberta Energy Policy Review Pathway Study 2012
  Addresses policy implications arising from the findings of the Jacobs Consultancy’s “EU Pathway Study: Life Cycle Assessment of Crude Oils in A European Context (2012)” report.

  Schedule "A" (The "S" portion of the oil royalty formula, effective January 1, 1993)
  This report supplies the "S" basic royalty in cubic meters that is used in the appropriate royalty formula based on the vintage (old, new or Third Tier) and density (Heavy or Non-heavy) of the well. The report divides production volumes into ranges of 500 and each range is further divided into sections of 20 pages.

  Sectoral Water Allocations(Alberta Environment)
  Allocations do not directly reflect actual use or consumption of water - they are an indication of the relative amounts of water dedicated to a type of use and depict the growth in general water demand over time. In Alberta just over 40% is dedicated to Agriculture, while just over 6% is allocated for oil and gas.
