The Oil Sands Division of the Department of Energy is committed to the rapid development of environmental solutions for oil sands projects. We have provided information related to environmental issues on our Facts and Statistics page.

Several agencies are responsible for authorizing oil and gas activities in Alberta, the process has been simplified with the Upstream Oil and Gas Authorization Guide.  More information is also available from the ERCB.

Alberta Environment and Water has also developed a one-stop web portal to find detailed information on the environmental performance of Alberta’s oil sands facilities.

Information is also available that relates specifically to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).
